Helsinki Cruise Port to Airport: Transfer Guide for Every Terminal

Around 300 cruise ships call at Helsinki every season, and almost every passenger faces the same question on the last morning — how do I get from the quay to the airport without stress? Here is the answer, terminal by terminal.

Helsinki spreads its ships across several harbours, and they are not next to each other. Knowing which quay you arrive at decides how your airport transfer should be planned — so check your cruise line's disembarkation notice first, then find your terminal below.

The four quays cruise and ferry passengers actually use

West Terminal (Länsiterminaali) — the busy modern terminal in Jätkäsaari, used by most fast Tallinn ferries and a share of cruise calls. To Helsinki Airport it is about 30 minutes by car.

Katajanokka — the historic terminal on the eastern side of the centre, right by the old town. About 30 minutes to the airport.

Olympia Terminal — on the South Harbour promenade below the Market Square, another classic arrival point. About 30 minutes to the airport.

Hernesaari — the dedicated cruise quay south of the centre, where many of the big international ships berth. Allow a similar half hour to the airport.

All four are inside the Helsinki fixed-price zone, so a pre-booked transfer costs the same from any of them.

What a transfer from the quay costs

Our port-to-airport prices are fixed per vehicle, not per person:

  • Business, Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 passengers) — from €85
  • Minivan, Mercedes Vito (up to 7–8 passengers, one bag each when full) — from €95

For a family or a group of four and more the minivan usually beats four public-transport tickets on convenience alone: one vehicle, everyone together, luggage in the back, door to door.

Timing: book by the ship's schedule, not by luck

Cruise mornings are predictable — thousands of passengers leave a ship within a couple of hours, and the taxi rank at the quay empties fast. A pre-booked car removes the queue from the equation: your driver is waiting at the terminal with a name sign at the agreed time.

Two practical rules we give every cruise passenger:

Book the pickup for the time you realistically step off the ship, not the ship's arrival time — disembarkation itself can take 30–60 minutes on a big call. Your fare includes 15 minutes of free waiting from the booked time, so a small delay is covered.

For the flight itself, leave the port no later than about 2.5 hours before departure on a normal morning. If you want a live answer instead of a rule of thumb, our free When to leave helper calculates it from your flight, and the ferries and cruises board shows what is moving in the harbour today.

Ship in the morning, flight in the evening?

If your flight leaves late, do not spend the day at the airport. A private car with a driver by the hour turns a gap between ship and plane into the best part of the trip — we wrote a separate guide about exactly that: Helsinki in a few hours from your cruise ship. The short version: your luggage stays in the car, the driver plans the loop, and you finish at the terminal exactly when check-in opens.

How to book it

Booking takes about a minute online: pick the terminal as your pickup point, enter the date, time and flight number, choose the car. You get an instant confirmation by email, the driver's details before pickup, and a fixed price that does not change whatever the traffic does.

If your ship's schedule changes, tell us a few hours in advance and we adjust the pickup at no extra cost — cruise timetables move, and we plan for it.

All four Helsinki terminals — West, Olympia, Katajanokka and Hernesaari — are a fixed €85 to the airport; they sit together in our list of destinations, alongside every other route with its distance and drive time.
