The park is open all year — hiking, swimming and canoeing in summer, glowing red and gold foliage in autumn, snowshoeing in winter — and its trail network suits everyone from families on the short Lapinsalmi loop to trekkers doing full-day circuits between the entrances at Lapinsalmi, Tervajärvi and Saarijärvi. Campfire sites, lean-to shelters and rental saunas dot the shores, and rental cottages around the nearby lakes make Repovesi a destination for a whole week, not just a day walk.

About half an hour north of Kouvola's centre, in the old Jaala district on the upper Kymijoki, stands Verla — a perfectly preserved groundwood and board mill from the late 19th century and one of Finland's seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, listed in 1996. When production stopped in 1964, the mill was simply left as it was: the red-brick factory with its machinery in place, the wooden workers' village around it, the rapids that powered it all still rushing past.
