Helsinki Airport to West Terminal (Länsiterminaali) Private Transfer

Private door-to-door transfer · fixed price · ~30 min · meet & greet · for your Tallinn ferry

Book your transfer

Travel directly from Helsinki Airport (HEL) to the West Terminal — Länsiterminaali — in a private, pre-booked car with an English-speaking driver. This is the terminal most travellers use to catch the ferry to Tallinn, and a private transfer takes you from the arrivals hall straight to the terminal door with your luggage, with a price that is fixed the moment you book. Your driver tracks your flight, so even a delayed arrival still makes the crossing. We have been driving international travellers across Helsinki and Finland since 2008.

Fares by vehicle class

The Helsinki Airport ↔ West Terminal route is a fixed-price city transfer. You pay the same fixed fare whatever the traffic, and the exact price for your address is shown the moment you book.

Why pre-book a transfer to the ferry

Make your crossing, not the queue. Ferries to Tallinn leave on a fixed schedule and check-in closes well before departure. A pre-booked car that tracks your flight is the surest way to get from the runway to the terminal in time — no waiting in a taxi line at the airport, no hunting for a tram with your suitcases.

One car, all your luggage. Heading to Tallinn often means bigger bags, duty-free plans or a group travelling together. A Business Van (Mercedes Vito) takes up to 8 passengers and their luggage in a single vehicle, straight to the terminal entrance.

A fixed price you see before you book. No meter, no surge at peak ferry times. You agree the full price up front and pay exactly that.

The journey

The West Terminal (Länsiterminaali / West Harbour Terminal 2) sits in the Jätkäsaari district on the western edge of central Helsinki, at Tyynenmerenkatu 14. From Helsinki Airport the drive is about 22 km and takes roughly half an hour depending on traffic, mostly along the main motorway into the city and then down to the waterfront. Your driver knows exactly which terminal building you need and drops you right at the entrance — useful, because the West Harbour has more than one terminal.

We are a pre-booked service (book at least 24 hours ahead). Tell us your ferry time when you book and we will plan your pickup with comfortable margin so you reach check-in in good time.

The West Terminal and the ferry to Tallinn

The West Terminal — Länsiterminaali in Finnish — is Helsinki's busiest passenger harbour and the main gateway between Finland and Estonia. It is the modern terminal in the Jätkäsaari district, a short ride from the city centre, and the place to be if you are sailing to Tallinn. Two ferry companies run the Tallinn route from here: Tallink Silja Line, with its modern ships Megastar, MyStar and Victoria I, and Eckerö Line, with the MS Finlandia. Between them there are well over a dozen sailings a day in each direction.

The crossing to Tallinn takes roughly two to three and a half hours depending on the ship, with the newest fast vessels making it in around two and a quarter hours. With so many departures, Tallinn is one of the easiest and most popular day trips in northern Europe — you can leave Helsinki in the morning, spend the day in the Estonian capital and be back the same evening.

A day trip to Tallinn

Tallinn's medieval Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved in Europe: cobbled lanes, the Town Hall Square, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the viewpoints of Toompea Hill are all within easy walking distance of the ferry. The Old Town, the design shops of the Rotermann Quarter and Telliskivi Creative City, and Estonia's lower prices make it a favourite escape for visitors based in Helsinki. Ferries from Helsinki arrive at Tallinn's Old City Harbour, a short walk or quick tram ride from the Old Town.

Ferry tickets, luggage and check-in

Ferry tickets are booked directly with the operator (Tallink Silja Line or Eckerö Line) and prices vary with the date, time and how far ahead you book — early booking and off-peak sailings are usually the cheapest, and day-cruise fares can be very low. Foot passengers should aim to be at the terminal in good time before departure, as boarding closes ahead of sailing. There are no luggage limits like an airline's, which is part of why the ferry is such an easy way to travel with bags — and exactly why a door-to-door car to the terminal makes the start of the trip effortless.

Stockholm and other routes

If you are sailing to Stockholm rather than Tallinn, note that those overnight ferries (Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony) leave from a different harbour — the Olympia Terminal in the South Harbour — and Viking Line's Tallinn and Stockholm ships sail from the Katajanokka terminal. When you book, just tell us which terminal you need and we will take you to the right one; the fixed Helsinki city fare is the same.

The Jätkäsaari waterfront

Jätkäsaari, the district around the West Terminal, has grown into one of Helsinki's newest neighbourhoods, with waterfront apartments, cafés and the Bunker sports hall. It is a short tram ride (lines 7 and 9) or a few minutes by car from the city centre, the Market Square and the design district — handy if you have time to spare before your sailing.

Sailing for a cruise, conference or group?

The Tallinn ferries are popular for stag and hen trips, company outings, conferences across the gulf and family holidays — and the busiest departures fill the terminal quickly. If your group is flying into Helsinki to connect with a specific sailing, book your airport transfer early: we can take up to 8 passengers and their luggage in one Mercedes van, timed to your ferry, so everyone arrives together and on time.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Helsinki Airport to the West Terminal?

Our fixed fare starts at €65 in a Standard car and €85 in a Business Mercedes E-Class; larger Mercedes vans and First Class are also available. The price is fixed when you book — there is no meter — and the exact fare for your address is shown instantly.

How long does it take from the airport to the West Terminal?

About half an hour for the roughly 22 km drive, depending on traffic. Your driver tracks your flight, so a late landing does not cost you the car — or your ferry.

Which ferries leave from the West Terminal?

Tallink Silja Line (Megastar, MyStar and Victoria I) and Eckerö Line (MS Finlandia) sail to Tallinn from West Terminal 2 (Länsiterminaali). Viking Line's ships and the Stockholm ferries use other Helsinki terminals — tell us which one you need.

How long is the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn?

Roughly two to three and a half hours depending on the ship; the newest fast ferries make the crossing in about two and a quarter hours. There are well over a dozen sailings a day.

Can you get me there in time for ferry check-in?

Yes. Tell us your sailing time when you book and we plan the pickup with margin so you reach check-in comfortably. We track your flight in case it is delayed.

Can you take a group with lots of luggage?

Yes — a Business Van (Mercedes Vito) seats up to 8 passengers with their bags, ideal for ferry trips. Everyone travels together in one car to the terminal door.

Where do I buy ferry tickets and how much are they?

Ferry tickets are booked directly with the operator (Tallink Silja Line or Eckerö Line). Prices vary by date, time and how early you book; off-peak and day-cruise fares are usually the cheapest. We handle only your transfer to the terminal.

Do you also pick up from the West Terminal when I arrive back?

Yes. Book the return direction and we will meet you at the terminal when your ferry from Tallinn docks and take you to your Helsinki address or the airport.

Is the West Terminal the same as the South Harbour or Katajanokka?

No — Helsinki has several ferry terminals. The West Terminal (Länsiterminaali) in Jätkäsaari is for the Tallink Silja and Eckerö Line Tallinn ferries. We will always drop you at the correct terminal for your sailing.

How far in advance should I book the transfer?

We are a pre-booked service, so please book at least 24 hours before pickup — earlier for busy summer sailings.

Can I pay by card, and can I cancel?

You can pay securely online by card, or reserve now and pay later. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.
